UNITED!!!!

I need your help!!!!!!!!!

Dear Friends and Family;
I come to you today with a heavy, heavy heart!! A dear close friend of mine as come to me and asked if we keep their family in prayer... Her daughter is suffering from anorexia!!! She is a smart, beautiful girl; But Satan is on the war path.. He is trying to use all different kinds of strongholds to get to the heart of our next generation. I am ANGRY! This could happend to MY daughter, it could happend to YOURS....
Would you please take the time to educate yourself on this serious issue; and UNITE with me in prayer to lift this DAUGHTER up in PRAYER.  Allow her to be the representive of all teenage girls that battle with this issue. This is no joke...
I am seeing the hurt, depression, the cutting, the eating disorders more closely.  These kids are faced with adult issues that they shouldnt have to face. But Satan is a coward and he will bully anyone into his strongholds... But the bible says "Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you" (James 4:7). The Name of Jesus is the Name at which Satan will always flee.

Definition of Anorexia

Anorexia: An eating disorder characterized by markedly reduced appetite or total aversion to food. Anorexia is a serious psychological disorder. It is a condition that goes well beyond out-of-control dieting. The person with anorexia, most often a girl or young woman, initially begins dieting to lose weight. Over time, the weight loss becomes a sign of mastery and control. The drive to become thinner is thought to be secondary to concerns about control and fears relating to one's body. The individual continues the endless cycle of restrictive eating, often to a point close to starvation. This becomes an obsession and is similar to an addiction to a drug. Anorexia can be life-threatening.

Anorexia nervosa facts

  • Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder and, more importantly, a psychological disorder.
  • The cause of anorexia has not been definitively established, but self-esteem and body-image issues, societal pressures, and genetic factors likely each play a role.
  • Anorexia affects females far more often than males and is most common in adolescent females.
  • Anorexia tends to affect the middle and upper socioeconomic classes and Caucasians more often than less advantaged classes and ethnic minorities in the United States.
  • The disorder affects about 1% of adolescent girls and about 0.3% of males in the U.S.
  • People with anorexia tend to show compulsive behaviors, may become obsessed with food, and often show behaviors consistent with other addictions in their efforts to overly control their food intake and weight.
  • Men with anorexia are more likely to also have other psychological problems; affected women tend to be more perfectionistic and be more displeased with their bodies.
  • Children and adolescents with anorexia are at risk for a slowing of their growth and development.
  • The extreme dieting and weight loss of anorexia can lead to a potentially fatal degree of malnutrition.
  • Other possible complications of anorexia include heart-rhythm disturbances, digestive abnormalities, bone density loss, anemia, and hormonal and electrolyte imbalances.
  • Given the prevalence of denial of symptoms by individuals with anorexia, gathering information from loved ones of the anorexia sufferer is important in the diagnosis and treatment of the disorder.
  • Most medications are much better at treating symptoms that are associated with anorexia than addressing the specific symptoms of anorexia themselves.
  • As with many other illnesses with addictive symptoms, it takes a day-to-day effort to control the urge to relapse, and treatment may be needed on a long-term basis.
  • Increased understanding of the causes and treatments for anorexia remain the focus of ongoing research in the effort to improve the outcomes of individuals with this disorder

2nd week of camp!! (and being comfortable)

We finished another milestone at camp!! Last week was the 5th and 6th graders...
Lyv went to camp and had so much fun.  Watching her, reminded me of my younger days and how I longed for summer to get here, as I would spend the week @ camp.. I loved camp! She was in a cabin of 12 girls.  She did not know any of them but by the end of the week built some friendships. I met my best girlfriend of 20+ years (already.. wow!!) at church camp.. It was amazing to watch some of the transformation in these young kids lives!!!!

I'm starting to get comfortable in what we are doing.. But we must be careful with comfortably; it's in our comfort we begin to take our focus off of God and rely on our own strength. Comfort and peace are great blessing from the Lord. However, sometimes comfort can be a stumbling  block. We can become weak and dependent upon our routine and life by trusting in the securities of life instead of the Lord. There is nothing wrong with being comfortable, as long as we are still dependent upon Christ.
For example, I can get so caught up in my daily routine that I can often forget to put God first and in the center of my life.  I can also get caught up in living my life by showing the fruits of Christ but not sharing my faith. What about you? Do you get so comfortable in your faith in Christ that you go to church, pray when a need arises, enjoy life, tithe occasionally, let pastors and missionaries do the hard spiritual work???  In this mode, the call of God to make disciples of every nation is a faith whisper that if listened to, can only cause inconvenience and a disruption of Christian comforts.....
I have to admit I used to think that since I accepted Christ as my personal savior all I had to do is "show" people the fruits of the spirit. Afterall, anything more that that would just simply be uncomfortable.  I'm sure I've mentioned this in an earlier blog, but it has made such an impact on me I want to share it again.. I was ready the "Life that Matters" by Ron Hutchcraft. He was talking about the tragedy of  the Titanic and how the "unsinkable ship" sunk.. But the real tragedy wasn't that the boat sunk, it was that there were only 20 lifeboats (less than half of what should have been there for that size of boat) and the people who made it in those boats rowed right passed those in the frozen water. Why?  Because they were safe, they were comfortable, they did not want to risk their own lives once saved to save another!!! Compare that to our spiritual lifeboat.. Once we have accepted the love of Christ and have made that personal choice to follow him we are no longer sinking but have gotten inside a life boat.  There are unsaved loved ones all around us crying out for help!!!
What are we doing to help?
Our lives are full of instant gratification to make our lives more comfortable. We are truly blessed, but those blessings can be curses if they weaken our desires to live for God and reach the lost.  Faith is not only "saying" but it is also "doing" It is living missional lives in such a way we are loving others, serving others, praying for others, showing hospitality to others.  We are to take our lifeboats, turn them around and reach out to those that are sinking. Even if it means we are to get our of our comfort zones and do more than just show people how to live a life of faith.
I've been doing a lot of pondering on what is right for us as far as church goes. WE miss our old church a lot. We get in the rut of going through the motions of Sunday routine without researching or seeking direction from God.  But it isn't about me, and what is right.  In fact, we have so many churches in America that we are guaranteed we can find one to suit any whim or preference. Unfortunately, the messages that are pleasant and don't make our hearts ache for the lost or for the Lord are often times the ones we want to attend.. It's about being comfortable! Or is it? God sometimes allows trials and tribulations in our live sin order to get us to look to him. Struggle tends to strengthen faith because in struggle we turn to God. When we turn to him we seem to be more aware of the ungodliness and the need for others to be saved.  We are more concerned for the lost-because HE is.  Distractions are all around us, and we can get distracted from the calling of God. Its more than just attending church once a week, and reading your bible occasionally.  It's about taking the time out of your comfort level to see the God given moments; to reach out to the hurt, the lost, the dieing. It's about taking risks actively seeking God and having him show you weather or not your comfort is a good thing or not so much. Are you being used right now in a way that brings him glory?  Are you allowing Christ to shape you; as he is the potter and we are the clay. His precious hand molds us and shapes us into what He wants to make from our lives.  The question is
 Are you Comfortable?
"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing,"
                                                                      (James 1:2-4)

"Remember When"

"Remember When"

Remember when I was young and so were you
and time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when

Remember when we vowed the vows
and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when

Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when

Remember when the sound of little feet
was the music
We danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when

Remember when thirty seemed so old
Now lookn' back it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are,
Where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when
Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when

Protection and Provision!!!!

So  I was thinking.... I wonder how many times God has protected us without us knowing? I wonder, when we get to heaven, will we stand there in disbelief of all the things God did NOT ALLOW us to go through because of his protection??

Then I wondered how provision goes along with protection, and how many blessings we have had provided to us in the form of protection???

Provision:
Meaning
  • the activity of supplying or providing something
PROTECTION (noun)
The noun PROTECTION has 7 senses:
1. the activity of protecting someone or something
2. a covering that is intend to protect from damage or injury
3. defense against financial failure; financial independence
4. the condition of being protected
5. kindly endorsement and guidance
6. the imposition of duties or quotas on imports in order to protect domestic industry against foreign competition
7. payment extorted by gangsters on threat of violence

I was reading about Abraham and Isaac this morning.  In Genesis 22:1-19 God told Abraham to sacrifice is one and only son.  Abraham was a man of faith and believed that God would send his provision and protection.. In fact, in Genesis 22:5 it says "WE will worship and the WE will come back" WOW... Here was a man who waited 100 years to have his prayers answered and then shortly thereafter God is calling him out to see if he would put his faith and trust in him.  I couldn't even think about hurting my kids intentionally much less sacrificing them!!! However, Abraham couldn't either, and he knew God wouldn't as well.. It was a test of obedience, he had so much faith to believe that God would provide for him!!!!

The LORD will PROVIDE....(Jehovah Jireh)
So in our devotion book we are to list things that God has provided for us. This is where I began to ponder and reflect over the questions..

I get so caught up in being "busy" that I often times forget the God moments in my life....

I found this poem in my bible today as I was reading
From morning until night I am busy.
Surely all this motion is getting me somewhere, isn't it?
Somewhere......
What an indefinite term! Where am I going?
Am I any closer to being there than I was yesterday?
I don't know...
Ive been so busy going, I haven't thought about where...
Of course, I know, I want to know God,
NOW...
as He is revealed in Jesus Christ

Are we taking the time to reflect on his blessings over our lives, even if that means it comes in the form of protection???

Here's another question for....
What if Jesus was "providing you TIME in the form of an unanswered prayer???
In our moments of waiting on God we develop a relationship with him.  We live in a world today that is cultivated by instant gratification, and we seldom learn nothing about the situation.  God desires a relationship with us, not in the form of saying you have faith but in acting upon it.  The only way to develop a relationship is to walk and talk with God and to reflect on the promises that he gives us.  Its funny because I often skip the "list making" when asked to do so, however I think its important to remember how God provides for us, or does not provide if its in the form of protection!!
I am guilty of wanting my prayers answered right away, but when we have the mind set of wanting something right away, it often becomes what WE want and not want God wants.

I challenge you today to take the time to think about the Provision and protection God has provided in your life... And feel free to share your list with me as I will be sharing mine with you!!

1) God entrusted 3 Beautiful Children in my life
2) God took away 2
3) God sent me a wonderful husband of 16 1/2 years
4) God allowed me to walk in the valley of loneliness and brokenness for 13 of those years, to restore it to its fullest in his timing!! (amen to this!!)
5) God put me through the worst storm of my life
6) God sent his provision and protection through the storm
7) God is showing me healing and forgiveness
8) God protected Mike through is accident
9) God allowed me to go through excruciating pain in my back (for many, many years)
10) God is healing my back
11) God showed us that he wanted us to be used as a channel for him
12)God provides wisdom to remain in his Will
13) God continuously allows us to deal with vehicle problems... (which we are still trying to figure out the lesson on this one.....) Thank you God anyways!!
14) God has provided a wonderful nephew of which I had the privilege of being a huge part of his life the first two years of His life
15) God provided open doors
16) God knows what I can handle and protected me from the things he knew I would not be able to.. I may never know all the protection he has saved me from, however I do know that I want to continue a relationship even in the valleys of life, the storms of life, in the rain and in the sun and even in the mountains of life!!!!!

Christianity!!!

What is Christianity????

Christianity must be more than a habit or "just going through the motions"  You must be transformed from the inside out by a renewed heart in the likeness of Jesus Christ' loyal heart....

This was in the devotion book we are going through this summer.  I began to think of the ways God is transforming my life from the inside out and the character qualities that result from having a loyal heart from God.

Character qualities:
1.) LOVE
Deuteronomy 6:5 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all you strength"

2) FAITHFULNESS
Deuteronomy 11:13-14  "So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today- to love the Lord your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all you soul- then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in our grains, new wine and oil"

Life is going to be hard; we will have good, bad, sad and happy times.  We can't base our christianity on our emotions or our present times or conditions.  There will be times when we go through testings and trials that it may seem as if God has surely forgotten us.  But God desires a relationship with him so that we can share in these trials and develop hope and faith.  He, himself, was tested in his weekest moments and took on pain for us. He showed such unconditional love for us that even in our times of struggles when it seems as if he has forgotten us,  in those moments he wants us to hang on and cling to his promises
Hebrews 13:5 "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you"

3) FLEXIBILITY

Sometimes we get caught up in the "certain kind of living"... We should act, behave and respond a certain way, which typically is OUR WAY.
Our "thoughts"
Our "perceptions"
Our "ideal conditions"
Our "perfect model of living"
The harder we try to be the "perfect Christian" the harder we fall.  Reall life sneaks up and whacks us from behind, seeking to break our unbending back and our stiff neck, threatineing to paralyze us
Deauteronomy 10:16 "Circumcise your hearts, therefore and do not be stiff-necked any longer"
Excercicing our muscles of faith, hope, and understanding will enable us to supplment life with godly grace and perspective.  We must be willing to give up "OUR WAYs' and devote a lifestyle of compromise and flexibility.

4) TRUSTWORTHINESS

Deuteronomy 32:4 "He is the ROck, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just"

This is a hard one for me, as I am dealing with relational issues with my oldest son... He is so bitter and anger towards me at times.  Other times we get along great.  I am filled with anxiety as my desire  for him to have a heart after God.  I am praying for this as I need to trust that God has a plan for me and his life.  He is molding him into what he would have him become.  Turning even what I perceive has hurtful into his good.. My failures, his failure , our failures into footsteps toward Christ, himself.  I try to make a concious effort to place this situation and every situation in God's hands as he is my ROCK, whom I lead on.

5) CONFIDENCE
Joshua 1:9 "Do  not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord our God will be with you where you go "

I struggled with shame and guilt (still do on occassions) when I would feel so unworthy to be in the prensence of God.  I knew I had made the same mistake over again, after repenting from it numberous of times.  Or after being called to fullfill God's will for our lives slip back into the same old habits or forget to priorities my life.  OR, getting OUT of our comfort zones and spreading the LOVE of JESUS to others who need to be saved.. God is giving me a chance to be a channel for him, to be his hands and feet as he gives everyone the opportunity to do his work for him.  The question is this.. Will we let fear cripple us from doing his work because we may be afriad of offending someone? Or Will we let fear disable us from wanting to experience the peace that comes from being in the presence of God all because we do not feel "worthy"??

Its time to take a stand for what we believe in and save those who need saved. It not about feeling comfortable, its not about feeling safe, and its not about being afraid of offending someone.. Jesus himself, offended people.  But he was about his father's business. It all starts with our heart.
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will"
Romans 12:2

When we conform to the world's patterns and methods, we do not please God, not matter how good we feel about ourselves or how much other people approve of us.. But we do please God when our minds are renewed.

First week of Camp accomplished!!!

Well.... we officially completed our first week of camp!!!! I am drained......

Here are a few highlights from this week....

1) First day of camp was both exciting and exhausting... It is great to be in the heart of camp!

2) The jingle and chants have started... I wake up everyday with the song in my head....
"I said a BOOM, CHICKA BOOM"

3) We are selling mission bracelets for an orphanage in China.. We have raised approximately 350.00

4) Kids are dedicating their hearts to Christ!!!!!

5) We were all soaked by the end of today as we had to work in the pouring rain..... As I entered the chapel, the counselors were dancing around with the campers.. They were making the best out of a situation that could have easily been complained about.  The staff at Rivercrest is incredible... Its amazing how God orchestrates such wonderful plans for everyone lives that are involved!!!

6)I had a couple of disposable cameras in the snack shack that we were selling.. A kid came up today and I asked how I could help him? He then replied, "I'll take a "fake camera" please" bahahahahaha....

Our family will spend tonight and saturday relaxing and resting as we prepare for another week....

I leave you with this encouragement

Don't QuitAuthor believed to be Rev Wade Watts

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road your trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and its turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When they might have won, had they stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victors cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when your hardest hit,
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit!

We are working out of a devotion book entitled "MY ROCK" during the next 12 weeks.... I have to share with you todays devotion as it has spoken to my heart!!

......So here you are serving the Lord.  Have you considered that what you are doing has no hope of succes if it is not the Lord building it?  It's true. The Apostle Paul notes this when he says in 1 Corinthians 3:10-11, "According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For not other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."  This means that you must focus your attention on Him working through you.
During a camping season much will be amde of building-building fires, building trust, building lean-to's, building community, building a schedule, etc. But what of building lives?  Lives of young peopople without any foundations?  If our lives are being built on the founation of Christ, we must also aim for the lives of the ones to whom we minister having their lives built in the same fashion.  Look to Him alone as the only secure foundation.

Psalm 127:1
"Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.  Unless the Lord guards the cirty, the watchman stays awake in vain"

Final Countdown.....

We are in the middle of staff training here at camp.  The energy is running high as we all begin to fully submerge our lives into camp this summer. It is amazing to see all these young adults on fire for Christ.... Another thing is the tidbits of wisdom we are gaining from the speakers at night.  I thought I would share with you a few things that have really spoken to my heart!!!

**When you are frustrated about all the interruptions in your life and/or ministry... remember those interruptions ARE YOUR ministry....

**If Jesus came today to pick fruit from your basket... What kind of fruit would he be picking?

**The Devil NEVER takes a coffee break
"Be self-controlled & alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith"(1 Peter 5:8-9)

What about YOU? Are you involved with something that takes up a lot of your time, energy & efforts??  Are you living in such a way that sometimes you wonder why you feel so depleted, empty or exhausted???? What I have realized is this.. we can have good intentions, but it will not mean anything if we take credit for it... God places us in situations, brings circumstance in our lives and people to be in fellowship with to help love, support and care for. However, if we will not take the time to meet at the foot of Jesus and have fellowship with him, we will burn out.. Everyone has a mission, and that is to be in a relationship with Jesus and bring his name glory!

John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing".

Its one thing to wonder how you fit in to the grand scope of things, so that you come to know who you really are - but when someone asks - who do you think you are? Chances are they are not really curious about your identity, but they are saying, whoever you think you are, you've got no right to be where you are, or to be doing what you are doing. And if that's the case, there is a very good chance, the next question will be, and what do you have to say for yourself.

Jesus is the vine, and we are the branches - Jesus gives us life, Jesus feeds us so that we may grow and bear fruit. And if we are in Christ, even how we grow is not something we get to choose. Think about it. Plants grow towards the light, they don't even need to be told. We grow in Christ, and we grow towards Christ. What does this mean? It means that you do not grow away from your faith, nor do you grow away from the church. If you're heading away, you're not growing - you're dying - why? Because that is the nature of sin. Sin separates us from God, that is, sin cuts us of from the vine, so that we wither and die. That's why this is important, that's why people need to know - because God doesn't want people to die - God wants people to live, and be saved - and Jesus is the only name given under heaven in which there is salvation.

Jesus is the vine, and we are the branches - and forgiveness is just like life from the dead. For if sin cuts us off from Jesus, then forgiveness is nothing less, that being brought back to life, by being brought back to Jesus. And that's the work of the church, to bring the good news of forgiveness, of new life, to those who are perishing in sin.

Jesus is the vine and we are the branches - and the Father is the vine-dresser, he prunes us so that we bear much fruit. Sometimes this can be hard to understand. We can be in Christ, and yet there is still a discipline that shapes us. Sometimes this pruning cuts off leaves, because there needs to be a balance between fruit and leaves. Sometimes this pruning cuts off fruit, because there is only so much we can bear. What is important is that God is shaping us for our good, and God knows who we are.

A Wave of Emotions!!!!!

Have you ever felt like you were in a sea of emotions??

These last few weeks have been like a wave of emotions for us.... We got to experience the happiness of going back home and celebrating with friends and family... We experienced separation as we  left our kids for the first time for a longer period of time....We experienced excitement as we prepared for the heart of camp.... We experienced true friendship as we have experienced many many car troubles lately.....We experienced overjoyment as we were reunited with the kids, and family.... We experienced frustration as we remembered to juggle priorities.... We experienced sadness as we had to say goodbye to our family....

It's never easy saying goodbye... It leaves a whole in your heart, makes you feel as if you are missing something.  However, has Lyv is brokenhearted and I, a mother, try to console her I am reminded of this.....

Mark 1:16-20
"As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” 18At once they left their nets and followed him.
19When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him."

When Jesus asked his disciples to follow him, they followed him at once... There was...  no going away picnic, no selling their stuff, no preparing, planing or organizing, and no saying goodbye.  We, on the other hand was given the chance to do all those things when God asked "who should I send?"  How fortunate that we are, as well,  given the chance to stay in contact with our family!!

John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
